Planning The Characters

I wanted relationship between David (the protagonist) and Lucy to have a sense of banter to it. I looked at Se7en and at the relationship between Mr Somerset and Mills; it brings a sense of humour to the story at many dark moments. I also knew I wanted the sidekick character to be female because it widens the target audience and also gives the dynamic a different aspect. I didn’t want their relationship to be flirty though because David is already married. A good example of what I was trying to create is in Broadchurch, between Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller, portrayed by David Tennant and Olivia Coleman.
