Black Lake Poster

"Sinister events engulf young and ambitious Johan and his friends when they visit the abandoned Black Lake ski resort, the scene of a horrific crime. Remote and neglected, Black Lake has been closed for years. Johan invites his friends there on a test trip, with the idea of reopening the resort. They are soon gripped by a series of disturbing experiences. On the very first night, Johan's girlfriend, Hanne, is woken by a sickening thudding noise coming from the cellar. The landlord refuses to let them investigate. It turns out the resort was closed after a family were found dead, strangled. One by one, members of the group wake with bloodshot eyes following nightmares of being strangled. With fear and danger spiralling, Hanne becomes convinced that supernatural forces wish them ill. Who can be trusted? Who will survive?"

This is Black Lake. It was a Swedish TV Drama/Thriller originally called "Svartsjön" it was shown on BBC 4 earlier this year (2017) with a total of 8 episodes.

All the way through there's a constant question as to whether or not the characters are being haunted  by ghosts or whether its the people playing tricks on each other. Its not until the final moments of the last episode that you realise it IS ghosts that have been tormenting them which leaves the audience with an extremely eerie feeling.

This mini series had so many elements of the thriller genre, there was very intense chase scenes in the abandoned cellar and around the Swedish Ski resort. The setting itself, the back story to all of the characters,  also the main reason that they are all at the resort is to film a documentary - so most of there trip is on camera and filmed, but the audience doesn't known if someone is doing the mysterious things or if its the supernatural. The protagonist Hanne believes that she's communicating with a "myling" boy called Mikael" which adds to the mystery of the story.

Another Thriller that was on recently was ITV's,  Liar. Created by Harry and Jack Williams "British psychological thriller in which schoolteacher Laura Nielson accuses renowned surgeon Andrew Earlham of rape." Liar was excellent because the first couple of episodes you really cant tell who is the liar. The mini series had extremely tense scenes including the chases and arguments between the central characters. It proved to be a success as its now been renewed for a second series.

Rellik Poster

Rellik was also a programme that was on recently. It was also created by Harry and Jack Williams, "Told in reverse, the show follows DCI Gabriel Markham and his team as they try to hunt down a serial killer." the idea of this show is great and I've never seen it done before, the first episode is essentially the last episode because the whole story is told backwards, the reverse editing used to go back in time to uncover how the story starts is so gripping and I will definitely try to use in my trailer if possible.

Remember Me was another well done thriller,  "The day Tom Parfitt moves from his home into residential care, he becomes the sole witness to a violent death." it was created by Gwyneth Hughes and was aired in 2014. multiple characters were haunted by a ghost but it was done in such an eerie way, for example it was what you didn't see that made it scary like when there was quick pans you just knew that just beyond the camera shot was the ghost and id like to use some aspects form this in my trailer.

Image result for the missing poster bbc The Missing was a classic thriller story. "When Tony and Emily Hughes travel to France with their 5-year-old son Oliver, their family holiday turns into a nightmare when Oliver disappears from a large celebrating crowd in Northern France. " this TV series was very popular and gripping, it was a mystery as to where their daughter was and everyone was a suspect until the penultimate when we found out. The use of flashbacks throughout was what kept the story progressing and the idea that every episode you changed your mind as to who did it. It was a great storyline and had many red hearings to distract the viewer from what was actually going on.

Requiem
was created by Kris Mrksa for the BBC the synopsis from IMDb is :
“In 1994, a toddler disappeared from a small Welsh village, never to be seen again. 23 years later, in London, the mother of rising cello star Matilda Gray takes her own life, without apparent reason. Among her possessions, Matilda discovers tantalising evidence, linking her mother to the Welsh girl's disappearance all those years ago. And so grief stricken Matilda travels to Wales, determined to find out who she really is, even if it means unravelling her own identity. In the process, she uncovers long buried secrets in this remote community - including one secret more bizarre, terrifying and dangerous than anything she could have imagined: Dark otherworldly forces are gathering - they have been waiting many years for Matilda to return. If every life is a story, then for most of us, it's our parents who write the opening chapters. They record and remember our early childhoods as we cannot, acting as trusted witnesses to our lives.”
This aired recently in 2018 on BBC and is a physiological thriller/horror. It is more popular with younger audiences as once the “ghost element” is established it turned off older audiences who were initially interested in the “Missing person” case. I like how  they slowly layered the story up to a massive mystery into if she was the missing girl and if everyone in the town was in on the supernatural goings on.
